Hi, I'm Oscar.
Hi, I’m Oscar! I’m a young bell ringer from the West of England, and I’ve been practicing and enjoying the art of campanology since 2022. Since starting out at my home tower, I’ve been lucky enough to ring at a number of different towers, including Winchester Cathedral, as well as towers across Sussex. Adding on to this I have also been lucky enough to represent the "Sussex Young Ringers" in competions such as SEECON and RWNYC (Ringing World National Youth Contest). Each visit has been a great opportunity to improve my ringing, and meet new people along the way. On this website, I will be going deeper into the history of campanology, looking at how bell ringing developed over the centuries and how it became such an important part of British culture, churches, and communities. I will also be writing about steeple keeping and the many traditions that have been passed down from one generation of ringers to another. There are so many interesting stories, old records, bells, and pieces of information that can easily be forgotten, and I hope to bring some of these back into the light, As a young ringer, I think it is important that young people take an interest in this fascinating tradition and I hope that by learning about its past that people will choose to continue the tradition of campanology. So, whether you are an experienced ringer, someone who is just starting out or just interested in church history, welcome! I hope you enjoy exploring my little corner of the internet and learning about the world of campanology.
